ISSA VP hits back at critics over 'Champs' changes

Voice of ISSA Vice President Keith Wellington

Vice President of the Inter Secondary Schools' Sports Association (ISSA) Keith Wellington has hit back at criticism aimed at the association's recent rule changes for the Boys and Girls Championships.

Speaking with RJR Sports recently, chiropractic neurologist Dr Neil Gardner, himself a former ‘Champs’ standout, said ISSA was not equipped to make changes regarding overwork of athletes at champs.

However, speaking on Hitz 92 FM's Sports Grill on Friday, Wellington said the decision was guided by the requisite expertise.

“The changes were recommended by the technical committee of ISSA which is grounded in sound knowledge of athletics,” said Wellington.

Wellington says ISSA made the decision which best strikes a balance between athletics and academics.
